Keeping the carpet clean in my house is one of my biggest challenges! Carpet care can be one of the most daunting tasks when it comes to house cleaning. However, using these carpet cleaning tips has helped me immensely. So, I thought I'd share them with you.
The first tip is to vacuum daily. Most carpet wear comes from dirt and oily soil attracts more of the same. Therefore, vacuuming often really helps to prolong the life of your carpet. If daily seems like too much for you then a good rule of thumb is to vacuum at least one time a week for each person who lives in your house.

Next be sure to treat stains quickly. Most stains can be removed with some method or product. But the longer the stain is allowed to chemically react with the carpet fibers the harder it will be to remove.
Do a spot test before using any kind of cleaner. All carpets are different and some react poorly to the acid or alkali in the cleaners. And the last thing you need is a permanent bleach stain or something that you can fix!
When treating a stain always start with the most mild product first. Don't use harsh chemicals unless you absolutely have to because they will break down the carpet fibers. Be sure to neutralize products with high acid or alkali content when you are finished.
Never rub or dig a stain. Instead gently scrape the stain to the middle and then blot wit a white towel or cloth with a meat tenderizer or brush.
Be sure not to use too much carpet cleaning solution. Soap works because it attracts dirt. Therefore, if you leave soap in your carpet it will attract more dirt.
Don't over wet your carpet. If you get too much water in it the stain will just soak down into the pad making it even harder to get it out.
If possible use a carpet extractor. You can buy them for fairly cheap or rent one at your local grocery store. One with rotary scrubbers on it is best. And the more suction power it has the better! This will help to get out the deep down dirt and detergent.
If you have a stain never put a stain repellant or carpet protector product on it. This will just make the stain more permanent and harder to get out.
When it comes to carpet care good entrance mats can prevent a lot of dirt from getting on your carpet to begin with. Be sure to place one outside the door and another one inside the door. And make sure that you clean the mats before they become too full of dirt or they will become useless.
The very best carpet care solution is to simply vacuum often and thoroughly. This is how carpet is made to be cared for the most. So, get out that vacuum, put on your head phones and get to it!
